July 2018 - Crave Newsletter

Dearest Crave community,

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer and all the great things that are happening at the box! Some things to look forward to:

We will have childcare offered in the evenings for the 6:30 class Monday through Thursday and on Fridays at the 5:30 class for the rest of July and through August.

The Celina Lake Festival Fireworks are Friday July, 26th. Feel free to bring your favorite side dish and beverage to the box and well provide the meat on the grill. Pyrotechnics go off at 10p...or maybe earlier :)

Athletes, be on the lookout for a newly crowned L1 coach on the floor!! McKenzie Fishbaugh recently received her L1 certificate and will be making the rounds through a class near you. Give her a pat on the back and your undivided attention as she has plenty of knowledge and experience to share.

Speaking of new people on the floor; please welcome our most recent class of Couch to CrossFitters to the normal classes. Im sure all you vets can remember what it was like during those early days so lend a hand when you can and support these neophyte CrossFitters.

Mark your calendars for August 9th. Crave is taking over the Bryson pool in Celina from 5:30 to 7:30 for a private pool party. Stay tuned for details.

If you like the body scanner service brought in by 5 Star Nutrition, wait until you see whats arriving at the box in the coming weeks!!

Athlete of the Month
Derek Drummond

Have you seen this man since his escape? Have you seen this fugitive from his former lifetstyle? This month we honor one of our newest community members and with good cause. Derek has been described as "super-coachable." He comes in with a smile everyday and always gives 110%. Hes learned in a very short time that it takes discipline to acclimate to a healthier lifestyle; not only through his fitness but as well as his dietary habits. We would also like to congratulate Derek on his upcoming graduation from college!!! Congrats Derek, hard work pays off.

Recipe of the Month

A little sweet tooth item from Coach Jamie:

"Baked" Cinnamon Apples

Prep Time:  2 minutes

Cook Time:  2 minutes

Total Time:  4 minutes

Servings1

Ingredients

1 Sweet Apple of your choice

1/2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

1 tsp Ground Cinnamon

Dash Ground Nutmeg

Small Glass Bowl

Plastic Wrap or Lid for the Bowl

Instructions

Using an apple slicer (or a knife), cut your apple into wedges. You can either peel it before or after (I prefer after). Cut wedges in half or thirds to make bite-size pieces.

Put the coconut oil in the small bowl (I use a Pyrex dish with a lid for this) and microwave it for about 15-20 seconds until its melted.

Place apples and all other ingredients into the glass bowl. Mix it around to coat the apples with the spices and oil.

Place the lid or plastic wrap on the top of the bowl. Leave a small vent open for steam to escape.

Microwave on HIGH for 2:15.

Be very careful removing the bowl from the microwave. It will be extremely hot and there will be steam. Use potholders here, it really helps.

Give everything a quick little stir, let them cool a minute or two (so you dont burn your tongue) and eat warm.
